Content Accessibility Across Formats

Accessibility is built into text structure, images, video, and documents before publication rather than added at the end.

At a glance

Why this guide matters

Clear hierarchy, descriptive alt text, captions, transcripts, and text-based PDFs make one resource usable in different ways.

Material status

This is an editorial guide for the initiative’s development version. It explains an approach and does not replace professional medical, legal or financial advice.

Practical route

Three steps for responsible work

Begin with context, record decisions and preserve each person’s right to revisit the terms.

Structure and Language

Use one H1, sequential H2 and H3 headings, short paragraphs, and meaningful link labels. Explain specialist terms at first use.

Images and Video

Give meaningful images alt text of 8–20 words. Provide video captions in the original language and English, together with a full transcript.

Documents and Review

PDF files should have a text layer, completed metadata, and a logical structure. Review new material against the accessibility checklist before publication.
